Understanding your child
starts here
Our assessments are designed to help families and clinicians build a clearer, more complete picture of a child's strengths, needs, and the support that will make the most difference.
"An assessment isn't about labelling — it's about understanding. When we understand a child more fully, we can support them more effectively."
What we assess
We offer four types of assessments at Therapy for Kids Perth, each conducted by our experienced clinicians. All assessments are neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and focused on building understanding — not defining limitations.
ADHD Assessment
PsychologyA thorough, neuroaffirming ADHD assessment for children, adolescents, and young adults. Our psychologists use a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that includes clinical interviews, standardised rating scales, direct assessment, and collateral information from parents and teachers. The process is designed to be informative and collaborative — not clinical or intimidating.
Autism Assessment
Psychology & Speech PathologyA comprehensive, multidisciplinary autism assessment conducted by our psychology and speech pathology team, following the National Clinical Guidelines and WA consensus pathway. We use the ADOS-2 alongside clinical interviews, developmental history, and collateral information to build a full picture of your child. Our approach is neuroaffirming throughout — we celebrate difference and avoid deficit-based framing.
Cognitive Assessment
PsychologyA cognitive assessment provides a detailed profile of your child's intellectual abilities — including reasoning, processing speed, working memory, and verbal and non-verbal skills. It can be valuable for understanding learning profiles, identifying intellectual disability, informing school planning, and supporting other assessment processes. The face-to-face assessment takes approximately 2 hours.
Functional Capacity Assessment
Occupational TherapyA Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a comprehensive evaluation of how a child's disability affects their ability to participate in everyday life — at home, at school, and in the community. Most commonly used to support NDIS applications and plan reviews, an FCA produces a detailed report that helps the NDIA understand a child's real support needs. A minimum of 10 hours is required.
