Speech Pathology

Supporting children, adolescents, and young adults to find their voice — and everything that goes with it.

About the Service

More than just words

Communication is at the heart of everything — making friends, learning, expressing feelings, and navigating the world. Speech pathology at Therapy for Kids Perth supports children, adolescents, and young adults across a broad range of communication and language needs.

Our speech pathologists work closely with children and their families to understand each child's unique strengths and goals. Sessions are play-based, child-led, and built around what matters most to your family.

We take a neuroaffirming approach, which means we celebrate difference, honour each child's communication style, and focus on supporting connection and participation — not on making children communicate in a particular way.

Please note: our speech pathology services are focused on communication, language, and feeding development. We do not currently offer services for voice disorders or dysphagia (swallowing difficulties).

No referral needed to get started

NDIS, private health, and self-funded families can book directly. Medicare clients will need a referral from their GP or relevant specialist — see the Funding section below for details.

Areas We Support

What can speech pathology help with?

Our speech pathologists work across a wide range of communication and language areas. Every child is different, and we tailor our approach to suit each individual.

Speech Sound Development

Supporting children who find certain sounds tricky, including speech sound disorders, articulation difficulties, phonological processing, and childhood apraxia of speech (CAS/dyspraxia).

Language Development

Working with children who are developing their understanding of language (receptive language) and/or their ability to express themselves (expressive language), including vocabulary, sentence structure, and comprehension.

Stuttering & Fluency

Supporting children and young people who stutter, with approaches tailored to age, goals, and communication preferences. We work with families to build confidence and ease in everyday communication.

Social Communication

Helping children to navigate social interactions, understand nonverbal cues, develop friendships, and communicate effectively in different settings — including school, home, and community environments.

Literacy & Reading

Supporting the development of phonological awareness, phonics, reading, and writing skills. Speech pathologists play an important role in early literacy development and supporting children who find reading and spelling challenging.

Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)

Supporting children who benefit from using communication tools alongside or instead of spoken language, including high-tech devices, symbol-based communication, and sign-supported communication strategies.

Early Language & Communication

Working with toddlers and young children during the critical early years to build a strong foundation for communication, play-based interaction, and language development.

Speech & Language in Neurodivergent Children

Supporting autistic children, children with ADHD, and other neurodivergent young people in a neuroaffirming way — celebrating their communication style and working with their strengths.

Your Journey

What to expect

Here's a general guide to how your speech pathology journey typically unfolds. Every family is different, and we'll always work with you to find an approach that suits your child.

Get in touch

Book online directly, or reach out via our contact page if you'd prefer to chat with us first. If there's a wait for your preferred location, you're welcome to join our waitlist.

Initial consultation

Your first session is a chance for us to meet your child, understand your family's goals, and gather background information. We'll observe how your child communicates and identify areas to explore further.

Assessment (if recommended)

For some children, a formal assessment helps us build a clear picture of their communication strengths and needs. We'll explain what this involves and discuss it with you before proceeding.

Goal-setting together

We'll collaborate with you and your child to set meaningful goals that reflect what matters most in your everyday life — at home, at school, and in the community.

Therapy sessions

Sessions are play-based, functional, and engaging. We work at your child's pace, celebrate their progress, and regularly review goals with the whole family.

Home and school support

We provide strategies and resources to support communication between sessions. With your consent, we also liaise with teachers and other professionals to ensure consistent support across all environments.

Funding Your Sessions

How to access speech pathology

We work with a range of funding types so your family can access the support you need. If you're not sure which option applies to you, get in touch and we'll help you work it out.
