Social Stencil Small Group Program
A neuroaffirming social and emotional learning group for children, where friendship, communication and problem-solving are explored together, with the support of our clinicians and the company of peers.
A place to build social and emotional skills together
The Social Stencil Small Group Program is a 12-week program for children aged around 8 to 12. Groups are small, three to four children, and are run together by a speech pathologist and an occupational therapist, so each child has support from two disciplines at once.
The program teaches key social and emotional learning skills through a warm, neuroaffirming approach. Rather than asking children to change who they are, it helps them understand themselves and others, and gives them tools they can carry into friendships and everyday life.
Sessions run weekly on Tuesdays from 2 to 3pm at our Beckenham clinic. Before a child starts, we book an individual session to talk through the group structure and whether it's a good fit for your child's needs.
Skills we explore together
What it's all about
Social Stencil brings social and emotional learning to life through eight engaging ideas, from listening and emotions to friendship and problem-solving. Here's an overview of the concepts your child will explore together with their group.

Thoughtful, respectful placement
The program is designed to be respectful and inclusive. We group participants thoughtfully, based on:
- Similarities in learning styles
- Similar age or grade range
- Where possible, shared interests
Because we take care to match children well, immediate placement in the next group isn't guaranteed. Children are kept on our Expression of Interest list until a suitable group for them is ready, so the fit is right when it happens.
Led by Amy Craig, Speech Pathologist
Our Social Stencil group is run by Amy Craig, a speech pathologist at Therapy for Kids Perth and a trained Social Stencil facilitator, alongside an occupational therapist. That means every session has both speech pathology and occupational therapy support in the room. You can read more about Amy on her team profile.
